Asbestos Risks and Dangers

Asbestos cannot be managed safely through guesswork, shortcuts or DIY removal.

Ask A1 about this service

Why it matters

When asbestos-containing material is damaged or disturbed, microscopic fibres can become airborne and may be inhaled. The health consequences can be severe and may not become apparent for many years. DIY removal and unauthorised work can expose the person doing the job, other occupants, neighbours, tradespeople and anyone who later enters or cleans the area.

DIY is not worth the risk

Common tools and household cleaning methods can spread contamination beyond the immediate work area.

You may not see the danger

Asbestos fibres are not reliably identified by sight. Materials should be assessed and tested before disturbance.

Exposure can extend beyond the worker

Dust can travel on clothing, footwear, tools, vehicles and waste, placing families and others at risk.

Unauthorised removal creates wider problems

Poor containment, incorrect transport or unlawful disposal can turn a small job into a serious health, compliance and financial issue.

The A1 approach

A clear, controlled path forward

  1. 01

    Stop work

Do not continue disturbing the material.

  2. 02

    Restrict access

Keep people away and avoid sweeping or vacuuming.

  3. 03

    Seek professional advice

Arrange assessment, sampling and a safe plan.

  4. 04

    Use appropriate specialists

Removal, clearance and disposal must be matched to the material and risk.
